Holly Roller Novocaine

So does anyone else see the extreme awsomeness of Kings of Leon? Because they're one of my favorites. Ever since "Only By The Night" came out last year they've been becoming increasingly popular with everybody. But there's definitely more to them that that one album. The first album of theirs that caught my eye was "Aha Shake Heartbrake" (the cover kind of looks the Queens "A Night At The Opera"). This was one of their more popular albums as well with songs like "The Bucket" and "Taper Jean Girl". But later I started to listen to their first album, it was called "Youth and Young Manhood". This is now one of my favorite albums of all time. The Song "Holly Roller Novocaine", "Genius" and, "California Waiting" are all very very good. I Love KoL because they have a very southern older sounding rock sound with some of their songs, and then a new-age sound on others. For Example if you listen to The Song "California Waiting" off their first album, and then the song "Closer" on their newest album you probably wouldn't think it was the same band. The band is currently talking about future projects including a live DVD release on November 10, and a remix album coming in later months.

Closer to the Sun

When i think of past shows I've been to, one sticks in my mind the most. It was the Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dogg concert that took place at the Comcast Center in Mansfield. I don't think of this show often because it was the best one i've ever been to, but it was the biggest disappointment. I was so exited to see slightly stoopid for the whole summer, and when i finally, they put on the worst show i've ever seen. They were so much different live, as opposed to there studio albums, the lyrics weren't as smooth going with the music, and the guitar player missed notes while he played. But the show itself wasn't the only thing i didn't like about it, i've come to realize that i just don't like the Comcast Center at all. I hate the long drive, with all the traffic(every time), and i hate the strict security that throws kids out for having "too much fun" when the band on the stage encourages it. On the brighter side of things, Snoop Dogg put on a fantastic performance before slightly stoopid ruined the night. He go the crowd going and having a good time. Slightly Stoopid was so bad that night that some people i talked to that were at the show left only 4 or 5 songs into their set. And i really am(or was) a big fan of them until this show, but now when i listen to them i just think of how awful they are when it comes down to it and they need to play live. They may be better off just playing acoustically, because i definitely wasn't the only one who was disappointed with that night. Snoop Dogg rules.

Sunny Afternoon

I recently rediscovered a song while my ipod was on shuffle last night, the song was "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks. Although it was one of the first songs by The Kinks that I've ever heard and one of the songs that made them one of my favorite bands, i haven't listened to that song in years. What makes me love that songs is they sing about having a pretty depressing life, he's broke, his girlfriend stole his car, and left him, but he still looks at the brighter side of things, he has an ice cold beer and a sunny afternoon. Another band that has been occupying most of my time has been Cursive, mostly their "Burst and Bloom" EP. The song "Mothership, mothership do you read me?" is now the most played song on my ipod. I love everything about that song, from when its slow and quiet, to when it could start a mosh pit. The cello playing in the background goes almost unnoticed but once you notice it, you realize that the song isn't the same without it(Cursive no longer has a cello player). "The Antipop" album by, Primus is excellent as well. This was their last album before their hiatus from 2000-2003. This album features guest from a bunch of different bands including, Jim Martin of Faith No More, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. Some of the best bass playing I've ever heard has come off this album, in tracks "Greet the Sacred Cow", and "The Antipop"

Offend in Every Way

Lately I've been listening to a lot of different varieties of music. Bands that I've listened to the most have been Phish, Primus, The Grateful Dead, The White Stripes, and Streetlight Manifesto. But my favorite at the moment has got tot be the White Stripes. Their album "White Blood Cells" is one of my favorites of all time. The White Stripes have a lot of different sounding musical styles, this album is using some blues, and funk variations, along with the alternative rock that they are most know for. They also show that this is not the only thing they can do by putting an acoustic song on the album entitled "Were Going to be Friends". But songs like "Offend in Every Way", and "Dead Leaves on The Dirty Grounds" show a heavier, bluesier sound. Also Phish put out a new album recently entitled "Joy", and i love it. The songs on the album that i think are the best are "Sugar Shack", "Joy", "Backwards Down a Number Line", and "Twenty Years Later". Although this album can't compare to past Phish albums like Farmhouse, and Billy Breathes.

.

The 4 year journey through this high school has been very long. But at the same time alot of it was fun. The authority people in the school (Principles, teachers, hall monitors, and even a few cops) have always been pretty shitty and enforce way too many rules. I mean, whats the big deal about an ipod, or a cell phone? Or even a hat or a hood. Even studies show that high school students do better on test while their listening to an ipod. But at out school if your seen with one out you have to give it to a teacher who will bring it to the principle, and then they will put it in a brown paper bag (from the liquor store) staple it shut, and write you name on it. Then your parent has to go get it from the principle on either a monday, or a wedsday. If you refuse to give your ipod/cell phone to which ever authority asks for it, you are suspended for 5 days. And the new rule at Gloucester High School is when you are suspended you get a zero on all the work you miss. Does any one else find this a bit ridiculous? But that's how it goes here. Fuck you GHS.
